Would You Take the Red Pill?

You claim freedom and free will, but how far are you willing to go to back that up? Given the choice, would you take the red pill and risk everything to gain it all, or would you be afraid to leave your “quasi” life behind and cower behind the blue pill?

Many people say that they want freedom, but I’m willing to be that they simply tell themselves that to mask the fact that they don’t have the strength or courage to do what they know must be done.

You have a choice…you can forsake everything you have for the sake of a spiritual journey, or you can remain in place, stuck to a body that will die and a life that will fade away.

How Much Control are

You Willing to Give Up?

The question isn’t so much, how much control do you have – the question is how much are you willing to give up? The true measure of control is the amount that we are willing to let go of and I’m willing to be that given the choice, many of use would retreat to our comfort zone.

You see, I know you feel it somewhere deep inside of you, that urge to break free of your cocoon and live the life of a butterfly. I bet that every day that passes where you haven’t shed a layer has resulted in another layer being added. Every day you feel the emotional energy build up inside of you, but you are afraid. You can’t take the pain of separation, of change.

So where does that leave us? You aren’t alone. We are all tied to our social and physical bonds. However, if we just realize that eventually, everything is going to fade away regardless, then we can accept our life as a butterfly much easier.

The truth is, once you face death and conquer it, you fear nothing. Doesn’t that sound like a wonderful way to live?

What is the human condition? Is it to love, to hurt, to feel? Are we born into sin or are we born as Gods? Were we made in error, or were we not made at all? We are born into something, there is no doubt about that, but what is it exactly?

Is the world a dream that we simply cannot wake from? Are we here to learn something from each other…from God? Are we here to learn to love?

Maybe we are the dreams of our fathers and we simply play out the story. Maybe we are the only way that God can feel. Maybe we are lost…

Just when I think I know it all, I find that am overwhelmed to the point where I know nothing at all. It is easy to get caught up in science or faith, but really how great is our perspective with such a limited faculty of understanding?

I don’t claim to have any answers, but I certainly have a lot of questions. I feel something when I travel down this road, I’m certain of that. I often don’t know where I am going or where I belong, but there is something that calls me there. Do you hear it?

We often get caught up in the excitement of our surroundings, forgetting we are on a journey home. Who among us feels at home here?

The pain and suffering in this place is tremendous, but I also enjoy the feel of it. I enjoy feeling inspired or hopeful. I enjoy being in love, so much that I am hopelessly out of control of my own experience. We’re all drunk on the sensual experience, but we’ve got to sober up.

Maybe this is a dream, but we’ve still got to wake up. The journey doesn’t end on its own.

This is an excerpt from a post I made on the 4 Hour Workweek Forums about someone’s unfortunate business experience in which they were a top-level CEO and were sabotaged by lower level employees trying to steal their job. It relates to an unfortunate scenario in which it seems as if the good never prosper and the bad continually get ahead. Although it does seem as if those that are willing to sacrifice integrity for advancement usually end up getting ahead in business worlds, what we fail to see is the long-term results. Just like the tortoise and the hair, with enough perspective you will often also find that the same unethical tactics used for advancement will eventually be a downfall. In my experience, the slow and steady efforts do win the race, whether that race is towards business success or spiritual advancement.

Here is my post:

“There are some of us…maybe old school maybe just different, that don’t see money as this treasure on top of a platform that we have to scratch and claw our way to get. Many people act as if they have to be the first or quickest to the top or there will not be enough for them, but in reality there is plenty to be had by everyone. Call it honor, call it integrity, or call it a moral code…but unfortunately many people throw it out the window when money is at stake. I find this state of things very disappointing and disheartening. However, it isn’t new as it has been going on since there has been wealth. Some times you can see it coming, but most of the time you cannot.

With the 9-5 mentality I don’t see a change in the forseable future. It isn’t in the best interest of the employers (in their minds) to empower employees and they would rather spend money to chain them to a cubicle than have them innovate enough to jump ship or pass them by. One thing I have learned on my journey is that unfortunately, we have to help ourselves first. If we help others in the process, we are likely to be let down or sabotaged. Once you help yourself you can then use your own example as a means to help others.”

As I sit here going through a list of topics I planned on writing about, I realized that ideas I’ve had weeks ago just don’t seem to have the same power now. It is almost like a seed that has grown into a seedling, but then having not been watered or nurtured has died. Ideas are like that in many respects.

We’ve all had that thought in the middle of the night that we didn’t write down and found that by the time we’ve reached the next morning the idea is lost. There are also patterns in life that seem to follow this routine. For instance, some days (usually weeks) I feel especially motivated to meditate, read, and write about all things spiritual in content. However, after a time I find that my motivation or “muse” has dissipated and the passion has left me. When that happens, I’ll find myself heavily interested in another topic or thought process. I have found that there are a series of 2-5 topics that seem to “switch on” from time to time, each on their own cycle. One week I’ll have 5-10 pages of spiritual discussion written and the next week I will be studying robotics or training harder than normal in my running routine.

What I am getting at here, are that there seem to exist a hanful of things we thrive on or excel at. If we pay attention, we will find that these seem to move in predictable patterns and using these patterns we can get the most out of that “muse” within. At first, I thought I was just unable to focus on anything for long periods of time or maybe my scattered mind was forcing me to move to the next “thrill.” However, when I noticed that I was moving back and forth between the same activities I was able to predict and ride these waves. Some would say to push through that wall, but I have found that if I just shift with the tide that my energy will transfer rather than abruptly halt. Obviously I like to write, but there is no reason to sit and force something out on my computer because the content will seem forced. The same goes for my studies on science, read when I am motivated and empowered to and not when I barely take in what I’m reading. Some would say this is a problematic approach because it become a change addiction, but I disagree. Moving with the current allows me to keep my momentum and stay fresh without sacrificing effectiveness. By moving from peak to peak, I am staying at the top of my capabilities rather than at the mercy of spontaneous manifestation or accomplishment.

Lastly, as per my first example, don’t let brain seeds die an impoverished death. Regardless of whether they arrive in the middle of the night or when you are driving, find a way to note and nurture them to fruition. I promise I’ll do the same.

“All day I think about it, then at night I say it. Where did I come from, and what am I supposed to be doing? I have no idea. My soul is from elsewhere, I’m sure of that, and I intend to end up there. This drunkenness began in some other tavern. When I get back around to that place, I’ll be completely sober. Meanwhile, I’m like a bird from another continent, sitting in this aviary. The day is coming when I fly off, but who is it now in my ear who hears my voice? Who says words with my mouth? Who looks out with my eyes? What is the soul? I cannot stop asking. If I could taste one sip of an answer, I could break out of this prison for drunks. I didn’t come here of my own accord, and I can’t leave that way. Whoever brought me here, will have to take me home. This poetry. I never know what I’m going to say. I don’t plan it. When I’m outside the saying of it, I get very quiet and rarely speak at all.”
-Rumi

What better way to kick off this blog than with a quote that captures the essence of our message? This is my favorite verse from Rumi, who also happens to be my favorite poet. The concept of this message really hit home when I first read it and laid a foundation for my future thoughts on Spirituality and Religion. Rumi has a way of mining the spiritual qualities out of any ordinary object. I highly recommend reading his poetry daily…in my opinion, Rumi’s poems are the voice of God.
